折扇

清朝末期，雕刻精美、描繪華麗的折扇大量在中國(guó)廣東生產(chǎn)，后被西方商人青睞。運(yùn)往歐洲和美國(guó)后成為西方貴婦的重要時(shí)尚配件(accessories)。中國(guó)折扇的材質(zhì)多為鏤雕精巧的象牙、珍珠貝殼、漆木(lacquer)。扇面上描繪了眾多清朝官員及夫人的形象。因?yàn)榫哂猩衩氐臇|方情調(diào)，當(dāng)時(shí)西方中上層貴婦人手一把，以此來(lái)炫耀自己的財(cái)富和高貴。

Chinese Fans

During the late Qing Dynasty, a large number of Chinese fans exquisitely carved and gorgeously painted were produced in Canton (now called Guangdong). These fans later were in good graces of western merchants. After they were shipped to Europe and America, they became fashionable accessories for noblewomen. The materials used to make Chinese fans were mostly exquisitely carved ivory, pearls and shells and lacquer. These Chinese fans showed many figures of Mandarins and their consorts. Mysterious oriental sentiment as they presented, each lady in upper-middle class family at that time owned a Chinese fan to show off her wealth and nobility.
