Cyberinsurance

Cyberinsurance covers a number of areas not normally spelled out in traditional policies. These areas include denial-of-service attacks that bring down e-commerce sites, electronic theft of sensitive information, virus-related damage, losses associated with internal networks crippled by hackers or rogue employees, privacy-related suits, and legal issues associated with websites, such as copyright and trademark violations.

Eavesdropping

This term originally referred to simply listening in on a conversation, but now it has taken on digital implications. The interception of e-mail, voicemail or facsimiles now falls under eavesdropping. This type of data collection can present an easier way of obtaining relevant passwords and authentication keys without needing to enter a secure system.

Packet Sniffing

This technique is used to appropriate valid TCP/IP network addresses by reading packets. Malicious code can then be labeled with the trusted network address and sent through the network unquestioned.
